How can we continue to live blindly according to convenience and excess when there are those who have nothing, subject to injustice and oppression?

How can we continue to allow ourselves to pursue the instantaneous but fleeting, inconsequential pleasure of material when it is that which oppresses us?

If you have never recognized suffering in your own life, perhaps the struggle of overcoming the social forces that encourage you to be apathetic will cause you to understand the struggle of those who face hunger, poverty, war, water shortage, fatality due to entirely preventable diseases, occupation of their native lands, racism and prejudice. Become critical of your complacency, or else even you are not free.
